BIM in education

In order to best prepare students of architecture and civil engineering for the challenges of the future, the BIM method has been firmly integrated into the training concept of the Master's degree programmes "Architecture" and "Planen, Bauen und Betreiben" (Design, Build and Operate) at the University of Wuppertal.

Under the leadership of apl. Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Anica Meins-Becker (Professur für die digitale Transformation der Bau- und Immobilienwirtschaft) and Prof. Holger Hoffmann (Lehrgebiet Darstellungsmethodik und Entwerfen), an interdisciplinary project module with a focus on BIM is being created.

Within the framework of this module, students will be taught the method of Building Information Modelling along the life cycle of real estate from the point of view of the various actors (client, planner, contractor, facility manager, etc.).

Joint project work between students of architecture and civil engineering is intended to contribute to the practical implementation of what has been learned and to promote team spirit.

Furthermore, the BIM Institute, together with the LIST Group, has been offering the BIM Summer School for Master's students of architecture and civil engineering as a new training initiative since 2019, in order to provide students with important knowledge in the field of BIM and thus prepare them for future challenges.

Furthermore, with the course "Grundlagen und Anwendungsfälle der Arbeitsmethode BIM" (Basics and Use Cases of the BIM Working Method), the BIM Institute is a recognised training partner according to the requirements of the international certification programme "Professional Certification - Foundation" by buildingSMART International as well as the VDI guideline VDI/bS-MT 2552 sheet 8.1.

In addition, the BIM Institute offers the possibility to take a BIM-Basis e-learning course in combination with the final examination for "Professional Certification - Foundation Basis" according to the requirements of the guideline VDI/buildingSMART 2552/8.1 "BIM Qualifikation - Basiskenntnisse" at the University of Wuppertal, as a registered certification body, or to complete only the e-learning module.

In cooperation with the Ministerium für Heimat, Kommunales, Bau und Digitalisierung (MHKBD) des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen, the further training BIMKommunal is offered. It is based on the BIM action recommendation for municipal building administrations and municipal building management in the state published by the MHKBD.
